Where Can You Still Find Fall Color in Nevada?

This late in the season, finding fall foliage is like a treasure hunt. Although most of the color is gone, there are some spots where autumn leaves continue to light up the forest. Here’s a report on what’s happening in both Southern and Northern Nevada as of November 10, 2024. Right now, in Northern Nevada, there’s a lot of wind ahead of the incoming storm, so that could blow some of the leaves off the trees.

Floyd Lamb Park – This peaceful fall color hotspot near Las Vegas is now At Peak and looking lovely.  We couldn’t reach anyone at the City of Las Vegas on Friday to obtain photos, but they posted some beautiful fall color pictures on Facebook. We shared the photos to our Nevada Fall Color Facebook page and we recommend you check them out there.

Carson Valley – Mostly past peak but there are some dabs of color here and there. Red trees lining up next to Highway 395 between Minden and Carson City looked picturesque as of Sunday morning, November 10. There’s also some cottonwood color behind the church that’s behind the swim center. The best color I’ve seen in the valley is along the road to Fay Luther Trail and on the trail itself.

Carson City – Fading, but some patches of color here and there. Some parking lots around town boast some red trees that are at peak.

Woodfords Canyon – Mostly past peak but there are patches of photo-worthy color here and there. In addition to the trees, the understory is also changing, such as wild roses, which are decorated not only with yellow leaves but also with bright red rose hips. The best lighting had already left the canyon when I arrived at 3:30 p.m. You’ll find that getting here before 2 p.m. will make for the best photos. For more about Woodfords Canyon, read our previous blog post.

The Town of Dayton and Dayton State Park – Fading but still showing off some gold leaves in places as of Friday, November 8. For a full report on Dayton, read our blog post here.

Topaz Lake – The California side was peaking on November 3, so we believe that by now, the Nevada side will be in the Fading category (Past Peak but with some scattered color). If you’ve been to Topaz Lake over the past week, let us know the state of the color by posting a comment on this blog post or email me photos and a report to [email protected]
