A little break in the bad weather allowed professional photographer Cindy van der Velde to drive up to the Mount Charleston area on October 25, 2026. Mount Charleston is near Las Vegas in Southern Nevada. Although the color was past peak, she found patches of yellow and green aspens adding color around the canyon.

“Unfortunately, all the thunderstorms and bad weather have really taken a toll on our fall colors this year,” she says. “I saw quite a few trees with green and yellow leaves, which means they were still in the process of changing colors, but sadly, most of the trees had already lost the majority of their leaves.
“South Loop Trail unfortunately looks like a tornado went through! Almost all the fall color at the beginning of the trail are gone. I didn’t hike any higher because I figured if there’s so little left at the lower elevations, there probably wouldn’t be much left higher up either.”

Instead, Cindy drove over to Echo Trail, where she was happy to find some fall color still hanging on, mostly green and yellow aspens.

“There’s also still quite a bit of fall color along the road as you drive up Mt. Charleston,” Cindy reports. “It’s not always easy to photograph because you can’t stop everywhere, but I did manage to get a few road pictures.”

Cindy didn’t make it over to Lee Canyon this time. She figured it’s probably the same mostly Past Peak situation on the upper elevations there, with perhaps some color hanging on lower down.

A few days before this, Cindy also made a brief stop at Floyd Lamb Park, another Southern Nevada fall color hot spot, where she found the leaves mostly green with some yellow sprinkled in here and there. The autumn foliage should be popping here in a couple of weeks.
