Genoa was a patchwork quilt of maples turning red and cottonwoods turning yellow on Monday, October 20, 2025. The maples in Genoa and Carson Valley are At Peak and have been for a while, so we recommend you don’t wait to visit.

Cottonwoods in Genoa are in the Near Peak stage overall (60%), although some are still green and some—including those on the trail between Wally’s and Genoa—are At Peak and looking lovely in their yellow fall attire.
Genoa is one of the most picturesque towns in Nevada. It’s located about 20 minutes south of Carson City at the base of the Sierra in Carson Valley. The historical buildings here combined with the fall foliage make for a pretty sight. You can see the foliage from above by hiking one of the trails that venture up into the mountains from town.

Combining a visit to Genoa with a drive up Highway 88 into Woodfords Canyon will make for a picture-perfect fall color drive.
There is a good chance of rain this weekend along with wind, so Thursday and Friday of this week will offer prime leaf-peeping opportunities before the storm hits.
