Woodfords Canyon is an alleyway of gold and some orange-red right now, as the aspens and other trees in this area are At Peak. You can reach the canyon by taking Highway 88 from Gardnerville up into the mountains. It’s the canyon between the town of Woodfords and Hope Valley and is not far into California after you cross the state line from Nevada.

Combining a drive through Woodfords Canyon with a drive through Minden and Gardnerville (Carson Valley) on Highway 88 makes for a pleasant excursion as the maples in the Carson Valley are blazing red and at peak and the cottonwoods are lightening up the valley with yellow.
Woodfords Canyon is at the go now stage (80%). We recommend visiting this area soon before the leaves drop. The canyon loses light early, especially the middle to upper part. We recommend visiting between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for the best light..

Be Careful of Traffic
Please be careful of traffic on Highway 88 if you are pulling out to take photos. Be sure your vehicle is completely off the highway, and take photos on the same side of the street where you are parked rather than crossing the busy highway. Be extra cautious of oncoming traffic when returning your vehicle to the highway. A few dirt roads or side roads in Woodfords Canyon allow you to park and explore.
