Finding fall color in Northern Nevada this late in the season is like a treasure hunt. This past weekend, on Saturday, November 8, we struck gold in a few areas.
Jack’s Valley Road in Carson Valley from Kingsbury Grade to Genoa had some nice spots, and Genoa Canyon Trail had splashes of fall foliage along the stream. Listening to the stream serenading us as we hiked was especially peaceful.

Although the photos from the Genoa Canyon Trail in this blog post were from November 4, the color looked about the same on November 8.
There was also still some cottonwood color along the Carson River by the Carson Valley Golf Course in Gardnerville.

A storm is expected from Wednesday night of this week through mid-day Friday, with snow in the mountains and rain and possibly a little snow in the valley. Also, high winds are expected to hit later on Wednesday into Thursday. If you can, get out there and appreciate what fall foliage is left before it blows away.
By the way, if you happen to be near Winnemucca, check out Water Canyon. We heard from someone who lives in Winnemucca that as of a few days ago, there was still some fall color up there, although it’s disappearing fast.
Northwest Nevada and Winnemucca Fall Color Update, November 8, 2025
• Carson Valley, Carson City, Reno – Fading, which means it’s past peak, but there are bright patches here and there that still make for good photos.
• Winnemucca – Still a bit of color in Water Canyon as of a few days ago.
