We sent friend Renee Ballenger on a mission to see how the fall color is progressing in the Mount Charleston area near Las Vegas.
She reports that the aspens around Lee Canyon Ski Resort at 8,660 feet above sea level are At Peak as of Wednesday, October 9. As you can see from her photos, the trees are a vibrant gold.
Over in Kyle Canyon, Â by the Rainbow subdivision at about 7,000 feet above sea level, the aspens are in the Getting Better stage (around 30%) judging by the photo. The trees near Kyle Canyon Campground are mostly green.
The Mount Charleston area provides a great escape from the Las Vegas heat. We recommend getting up there sooner rather than later, or you may miss the fall color. There are some trails still closed due to the damage from Tropical Storm Hilary in 2023, but plenty of hiking paths and driving routes are open to explore the area.
One helpful hint from Renee: Don’t leave your sunroof open. She tried that and a large swarm of gnats ended up in her car. Oh, the price we pay for viewing beautiful autumn foliage and stunning scenery.
