Maples, Pig  Races, and a Giant Slingshot

The nice thing about maples—at least the ones we have here in Northwest Nevada—is that it takes a long time for them to lose their leaves. That means the fall color display can last weeks. Finally, here in the Carson Valley, some leaves are falling from trees that have been turning for a month.

As of October 19, 2026, the maples in Northwest Nevada are At Peak. Pretty much all of them are an intense scarlet.

Even Marvin the Maple, here at Nevada Fall Color headquarters, is now At Peak. He’s usually one of the last to turn.

A good way to see the maples dressed in their red outfits is to drive through Carson Valley on Highway 88 and along Jack’s Valley Road between Genoa and Centerville Lane.

Pig Races and More

Through October 31, you can combine the trip with a visit to Corley Ranch Pumpkin Patch and Harvest Festival in Gardnerville, a fun excursion especially if you have kids.  The festival is all week, but on weekends there are special attractions like pig races, a giant sling shot, and wagon rides.
