This year, many maples are changing much earlier than usual in Northern Nevada. Some just have patches of scarlet while others are at least half red.

Last year, we wrote about why some maples were changing color in July. But last year the early change was isolated. In 2026 in Gardnerville, Minden, and Carson City, we estimate that around 25% of the maples are turning color as of September 9.

This makes for a pretty—and early—start to a beautiful fall in Nevada. Be sure not to miss the best fall color. Buy our Nevada Fall Color map, which shows you exactly where to go for a colorful and peaceful getaway.
